The bottleneck isn’t intelligence.

Why Gidion exists, in the founder’s own words.

Ask why we don’t have AGI yet and you’ll be handed a story about intelligence. The real answer is duller and more stubborn than that. It’s hardware. More precisely, it’s memory.

The frontier labs are not short on ideas. They’re short on somewhere to put them. A capable model has to live in memory while it runs, and memory is the one part of the stack that money alone cannot hurry.

So the industry does the only thing left to it: it spends. Reported losses at the frontier run into the billions against revenue a fraction of that size, and the capital expenditure behind it now runs into the hundreds of billions a year. That produces a strange kind of company — one where losing the race has become more frightening than losing money.

Fear makes a poor chief financial officer. It is a terrible way to run a business, and it is currently the default.

Why nobody simply makes more memory

You would think the answer is obvious. If memory is the ceiling, make more memory.

Three companies supply almost all of the world’s DRAM. A new fabrication plant costs somewhere in the region of fifteen to twenty billion dollars and takes three to five years to bring online. If demand cools before the doors open, that money is buried in concrete. Restraint simply pays better than expansion: keep supply tight, let the price find its ceiling, protect the margin. Nobody has to conspire for that to happen. It’s just what the incentives quietly recommend.

Everyone waiting for that supply to arrive is waiting on a decision that three boardrooms have no reason to make.

There is a second way out, and it is being declined just as quietly. Storage does not have to stay storage. A drive can be built to answer to two names — to hold data the way a disk does, and to be addressed the way memory is. This isn’t speculative. Intel shipped precisely that idea and then discontinued the line in 2022, for reasons that had a great deal more to do with margin than with physics.

The capability was proven and then shelved, because the economics of scarcity were better than the economics of abundance.

Half of that problem is software, and software is fair game for anyone willing to do the work. The other half is silicon. You cannot write your way to a drive that behaves like memory — someone has to fabricate it. Which puts the second road out in the same hands as the first.

Both roads lead back to the same small number of factories. Which leaves exactly one honest move: need less of what they’re rationing.

What Gidion does about it

Gidion is built around that sentence.

We have found several ways to take weight off memory and put it elsewhere in the machine — onto parts of your computer that sit idle while the RAM suffocates. We have not eliminated the dependency, and I doubt anyone will soon. But RAM was always a symptom. The disease is an architecture that assumes hardware is infinite and assumes somebody else is paying for it.

The software half of the storage problem is ours. We lean on the drive, stream in what doesn’t need to be resident, and hold in memory only what the moment actually requires. It works, and it has a ceiling — a ceiling that stops being ours the day somebody builds the hardware to meet it halfway.

The GPU bill we have eliminated outright.

The rest is the unglamorous work: a workflow that lets a model be chosen, fitted to the machine it will actually run on, and deployed — without a research division standing behind it. Most companies don’t run AI because they can’t afford to. Not because they don’t see the point, not because the models aren’t good enough. Because the number at the bottom of the invoice doesn’t work.

Every one of those companies is a customer nobody is currently able to serve.

Gidion’s purpose is to make intelligence cheap enough to be ordinary. The first milestone is AGI. The second is superintelligence, and I’d rather write that down plainly than pretend it isn’t the point.

Who is behind Gidion

Gidion has no team. It was built by one person and a fleet of AI agents — which is either the most efficient structure in modern software or the most reckless, and I expect to find out which.

I’m Michael Shadpour. I started programming at eight years old, and I’ve spent the years since adapting to the machines that now write alongside me, rather than pretending they aren’t there. Three years of thinking about Gidion. Two years of building it.

Gidion will show its full shape as the products land. Very little of it is visible yet. That’s deliberate.
